Information we collect

The categories of information we collect depend on how you interact with us.

Information you provide through this website. When you submit an inquiry form, you provide your name, title, agency, agency type, email address, phone number, and any details you choose to include in the message field.

Information we receive in the course of services. When a court, sheriff's department, attorney, or other party engages True North to carry out an order or assignment, we receive information necessary to perform that work, which may include the names and contact information of parties, debtors, lienholders, occupants, or other persons identified in the order; property descriptions and addresses; case numbers; and any documents accompanying the order.

Information generated by our work. In the course of carrying out an assignment, our officers may generate written notes, photographs, receipts, inventories, and returns documenting what was done. This information is treated as part of the case file.

Website usage information. Our website logs standard server information (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and operational purposes. We do not use this information to build profiles or to track visitors across other websites.

When we share information

We share information only as necessary to carry out our work or as required by law:

      - With the appointing court or issuing department, as part of the return on an                  order.

      - With parties identified in the order, to the extent required to give legal effect to              the order (for example, leaving copies of process with a defendant, or providing              notice to a tenant).

      - With law enforcement or other agencies, when assistance is requested or required          to execute an order safely.

      - With service providers who support our operations (for example, records vendors,          secure document destruction services), subject to confidentiality obligations.

      - When required by law, by court order, by subpoena, or in response to a lawful                request from a government authority.

Court records & public access

Many of the documents True North produces in the course of its work, including returns of service, sheriff's deeds, sale records, and similar filings, are filed with a court or recorded with a county and become public records under Michigan law. Information contained in those filings is governed by the access rules of the court or recording office, not by this notice.

      NOTE FOR THE PUBLIC

If you are seeking to access or correct information contained in a court filing or             recorded document, the appropriate office is the court that issued the order or the         county register of deeds, not True North Alliance.

Retention

We retain case files and related records for the periods required by Michigan statute, applicable court rules, and the State of Michigan general retention schedules. Inquiry messages submitted through this website are retained for a reasonable period in order to respond to and follow up on the inquiry, after which they are deleted unless the inquiry has matured into an engagement.

True North maintains administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Access to case information is limited to officers and staff with a need to know in connection with a specific assignment.
